Night transport in Bratislava

Night transport: Public

Night and no tram ?  As I mentioned in a previous post Bratislava has a cheap public transport and recently updated with new vehicles. That is very nice but if you happen to go out in the evening you might have difficulties in getting back using the tram/bus.

There is a night transport but somehow I never took it. Is kind of a ghostly presence. Many heard about it but very few actually saw it. I am one of a many who just heard about it. A friend of mine who attempted to take the night bus mentioned that you need to signal to the driver to stop. Otherwise you might end up waiting an hour for nothing. The scheduled of these buses is displayed in the same places as the rest of the public transport: Nocne linky

Night transport in Bratislava

I can compare now with the night transport in Brno and is quite a difference.  The night buses leave every hour starting 11:30 from Hlavni Nadrazi in all directions of the town. Is a very practical and cheap mode of traveling at night and everybody is using it. It was one of the first things that I learned when I arrived in Brno. I suppose that’s why the city center is so alive at night. Not that Bratislava is not!

Night transport: taxi

If the public night transport in Bratislava is not so popular the taxi business is very flourishing. For one is very cheap. In most cases I did not pay more than 5 euros for a taxi ride. I took once the taxi to Bratislava airport and I ended up paying 10 but that was an exception.

One important detail is that in order to get a better fare you should call for taxi and not pick up one that is waiting. This system I did not quite understand since in Romania was the opposite case. Anyway the difference in price can be significant.

We picked once a taxi because the lines were busy and nobody was answering  to any of the numbers that we had and we paid in the end 15 euros for a ride that we normaly pay 4 euros. So my advise is to call! 🙂

There are a few taxi apps that are becoming more popular for which the language skills are not required. 🙂

One of them is Hopin . One of my male friends once told me that he finds it very convenient especially after a few beers. 🙂

Another taxi app that was recently launched is Liftago. Which is a bit more expensive that Hopin.

In Bratislava you can also use Uber, that is not very known yet.

Night transport: Party time

Night trasport in Bratislava

All the big companies usually are organizing Chrismas parties. That means that in December there are many parties going on in Bratislava. It happens very often that in the same day two-three  big companies have parties. Which in turn means that a lot of taxis are called to pick-up the party-goers. This doesn’t necessarily mean that all will get the ride.

In all the years that I went to Christmas parties I never managed to get a taxi after 1 o’clock. The waiting time is one hour and more. That when somebody is answering your requests. If you have somebody that you can call to pick you up is great. Since Bratislava is not very big in some cases is worth to try to walk till home. But there were nights when it was really cold and the party outfit was not what I would consider warm enough. Especially if you are wearing high heels! 🙂

Night transport: Airport

In case you need to reach the Vienna airport there are a few possibilities : like train and buses. Vienna airport is not far away and a lot are flying from there since is there are many options with respect to international flights.

You can use Slovak lines that has buses very often in that direction and leaves you  right in front of the airport.

There are other lines like Student agency, an agency very popular in Slovakia and Czechia . You can also use Eurolines.

However if you have a lot of luggage, you are traveling with family, or small baby like in our case than maybe you can take an airport taxi. The fare starts from 50 euros and is very convenient and practical.  Make sure to check in advance the price.

If you are on tight budget then the bus might be the best option.

Chose what is the best for you and hopefully you will reach safe and sound at the destination! 🙂
