Konopiste Castle for a day
When you live in Prague you learn about the castles around. Although we have been in Prague for a while somehow we never found the time to visit Konopiste Castle. One early autumn day we decided that it was time. Actually some common friends suggested it first and we were not very hard to convince.
The road there is in good condition and fortunately there was no traffic jam on D1 . After two wrong turns, once because of us and second because of GPS we stopped the car in a very large parking lot. Paid parking!
Since it was a family outing we really appreciated the fact that there were a couple of places around the parking where you could buy some food, drinks and souvenirs. But the most cherished was the small playground.
Getting to the Konopiste Castle
The parking is very close to the castle. You can easily walk with kids and strollers. The road is in good condition. However we opted to use the services of a small train. In fact there are quite a few and they proved to be very popular with our kids.
The view from the train is very nice and you get to admire the nature around Konopiste Castle.
The nature is very well preserved around the castle. And there is a sense of peace and tranquility that you feel on its grounds.
Konopiste castle tour
Although we were with kids and we were afraid that they might get bored we decided to take one of the castle tours. You can opt for a recorded guide in a different language if your Czech is not very good.
And if you have a stroller you can leave it at the tickets office.
The castle is very impressive and in a remarkable good condition. There is plenty to see and to admire. The fathers in our group remarked on the weapon collections and in particular the gun collection.
And although towards the end the kids were giving signs of restlessness they managed just fine the tour. I have to say that there were other families in our tour and kids of different ages.
Attractions at Konopiste Castle
On the premises of the castle there is a chocolate shop. All kind of ingredients added in the mix and the result is in some cases spectacular. As you can imagine the kids liked the shop.
Another place that is worth visiting if you have time is the castle’ s gardens.
But if you go with kids I think the best place is the natural park around the castle that is the home of a few animals like deer and mouflon.
The children got to feed them grass through the fence.
And the good part is that across the street there is a restaurant where you can enjoy some Czech specialties.
And in case the kids are not interested in the animals the restaurant offers a small playground. The only downside is the fact that there is a main road close by. There was not much traffic when we were there but you need to be extra careful.
Overall the visit at Konopiste Castle was very nice, and we could easily spend a day there with the kids. There was something to see and enjoy for everybody.
