The adventure continue
In a previous post I wrote my first impression on the Nampula airport, Mozambique. From the airport we traveled around 3 hours to our destination: Coral Lodge The road till there is not very good and that is being kind. In fact by the time we arrived to our destination I was not sure what we will find.
We found out paradise!
Dream vacation at Coral Lodge
Probably this kind of vacation is “once in a lifetime” kind of vacation. By a stroke of luck and circumstances I got the opportunity to experience this place. First thing that I notice is the silence. No traffic, no tourists, no buildings! Ah and no TV and internet was very scarcely.
You can get there by car but the last lag of the trip is quite bumpy. Another faster option is from Nampula till Ilha de Mozambique ( Island of Mozambique) by car and after that by boat.
The place is absolutely perfect for the soul! Is quite isolated for one and absolutely beautiful. The private cottages have everything you might need for a pleasant stay. Including a big deck with water view.
At times the biggest noise that I could hear was the sound of waves. For me it was surprising that at 5 p.m was getting dark. For entertainment I started playing m’bale. 🙂 We liked it so much that we even brought home one game.
Food experience in Mozambique
The food was delicious! The package included full board! For the first time in my life I ate a full lobster. All the staff employed with the exception of managers were from around the area. I understood that majority of them got qualified on the job. The current chef learned everything from a chef from abroad.
So to be honest I am not sure how much was local cuisine and how much was from abroad. But it tasted very good and the sea food was fresh!
“We believe in love” foundation
While we were at Coral Lodge we had some small trips organized and everything was beautiful. Considering the infrastructure in the area what has been achieved there is absolutely incredible.
We found out that there is a village near by and somebody accompanied us. You can see poverty but also progress. And the base for the good changes in the area can be tracked down to the foundation” We believe in love”. An organization that is heavily connected with the lodge and with the managers of the place. With the help of the foundation the village was connected to electricity, the school was enlarged and the village can boast now with a small hospital.
However drinkable water is a pricey commodity and majority of the people in the village rely on an old well. There is still a lot to be done but the people are hopeful that good change will come. And ” We believe in love” did an outstanding job so far in helping the community. The guests of the lodge can contribute if they choose too.
Thoughts from Mozambique
The first thought that I had when I was there was that I am so lucky to have the life that I have. I have no idea where I would be now if communism would be still in power in Romania. However the fact that I lived in harsher conditions helped me to appreciate life better. The past is part of me. When I was in Mozambique I saw a lot of people that have a hard life. Any of us could have been in their place. Because we have no saying on where we are born or what kind of skin we have. So if you can, be kind. Kindness can do miracles. And visit Mozambique with an open mind. The nature is spectacular!
