Love for the castles
Bitov Castle is one of the nicest castles that I’ve seen so far. And I saw a few, although not even near as many as I want to see.
Fortunately the lands I am currently living in are full of castles and chateaus. You can practically find everything from ruins to excellently preserved castles.
Many of them appeared in movies since Czechs love fairytales and they don’t need any excuse in making a new movie. I never saw so many grown-ups watching Czech fairytales. And not just once or twice but multiple times! 🙂 At least every Christmas! Without counting the ones playing off season! 🙂
Summer choice: Bitov Castle
We had some friends coming to visit and after visiting Prague and Brno we wanted to go somewhere else. And of course in Czechia there is no shortage of castles! But we wanted something less sought by tourists for one. And of course we wanted something beautiful!
And Bitov is a beautiful castle. Starting with the way it was built on the rock and continuing with the great views and the impressive collections that can be seen displayed. In addition the nature around the castle  is so lush and green that you can easily spend some hour just being in the nature.
The river Dyje is close by and contributes extensively to the beauty of the place.
A treasure Castle
There are a few things that I like about Bitov Castle aside from the location. One being that you have many things to see. All kinds of precious objects of art that are in an excellent condition. You do not know where to look first and most probably you need more time to admire them all.
Comfy furniture?
During our tour I lost count of the rooms we saw! All furnished and beautifully preserved or restored!
From bed chambers to breakfast room or even music room.
Although to be honest some pieces of furniture didn’t look so comfortable!
But the view and the decor is quite pretty!
What makes the castle stand apart
It seems that the last lord was a co-owner of a factory that manufactured china. He had buckets of money and he was not really accepted by nobility.
So he spend much of his money on the reconstruction of the castle and the partial transformation in a private zoo.
There are many collections of stuffed animals on display. Even some species that disappeared.
But what I liked the most was the Castle’s kitchen! In not many castles I had a chance to have a look at one. Â In order to understand how they used to live you need to see all aspects of life. And the kitchen is one important place.
So I was really happy to be able to observe this one. And it looks like it is frozen in time and somebody is in the middle of preparing a tasty meal!
Traveling to the castle
When we visited we started from Brno by car and it took us under 1h30. If you travel from Prague or Bratislava it will take you probably around 2h30. But it is totally worth it!
The region is very nice and you might want to combine the visit with some camping. Or just book a guesthouse, take your time and enjoy your stay. Only the castle experience can take up all your afternoon!
Have a nice trip and explore Czech castles!
